Portfolio Work
Portfolio work is a term used by change guru Charles Handy late last century in his book, The Age of Unreason (1989), to cover all the work a person does, not just paid work.
We have adapted it to the workplace realities of Australia. We use the term:
- to enable people to make better sense of the varied pathways by which many are already generating income and making a livelihood through bringing in income from various sources.
- to legitimise portfolio work as a valid way of working – indeed for some people probably the only way of generating a living.
- to show the benefits of the portfolio work approach for those who want to prepare for - and work into - their retirement years.
There are three clearly identifiable models of portfolio work:
- The Ad hoc© model.
- The Anchored© model.
- The Synergistic© model.
Once it’s understood, portfolio work can be planned and run to a business development model.
